An important challenge to education administration in the 21st century
is the ability of the administration to adapt to significant changes in
the environment. In the past fifty years, biologists and cyberneticians
have articulated the concept of homeostasis. Homeostasis is the
tendency for the internal environment of the body to reach an equilibrium
state it seeks to maintain in response to external changes in the environment.
A dynamic organization including a social organization, such as a school,
college, or university must be adaptive when there are significant
changes in its environment, else it becomes inefficient and does not perform
its functions efficiently.
